A short story about a misunderstood dragon, adults who don’t listen, and a little girl

I wrote this a little while ago based on a challenge to create a story that included something about marigolds. While everyone else wrote about vases and grandmothers and first dates, I, of course, wrote about a dragon.

Not much else to report so far. My manuscript for Heart of the Mountain, Breath of the Water is finished and right now I’m fighting my procrastination demon is battling with my self-doubt demon over whose reason is best for not querying an agent. I think my get-on-with-it demon must be on vacation.

Anyway… I hope you enjoy this story.

Thank you Sela and Paulina

I’d like to send a huge THANK YOU!!! to Sela and Paulina at Twitch.Tv/Sela95 for live-stream reading Heart of the Mountain, Breath of the Water – Chapter One – The Girl.

They read parts of stories along with a chat group. Lots of fun. Loved it.

Oh, and they have a beautiful dog, Naya. Such a sweetie!

My book is finished!

Yay! It took me three years, and a lot of revisions, but Heart of the Mountain, Breath of the Water (working title) is complete. It’s about Neddy, the Girl in the trio of Girl/Woman/Crone, who lives in the Galenwood. Following a long-held tradition, Neddy is tasked with a quest to find a hero for the Galenwood. But Dark has stolen the Heart from Sun, and the Breath from Moon. Which means Neddy not only has to find her hero, she also must find the Heart and Breath and return them to Moon and Sun. If she doesn’t, Dark will take over the world, and everything in it will end.

Now to find an agent and publisher.

I think I’ve said it somewhere else her, but I like writing short stories, too. I’m going to start sharing some of them. But there’s one that I especially like — it’s my favorite at the moment — The Goblin’s Eyes. It’s like a fable, and I’ve decided to write more so that it will eventually be a book. The Goblin’s Eyes will be the first chapter, and I’m going to let you read it now. I hope you like it.

To give you a little taste, here’s the first paragraph:

“The goblin had her mother’s eyes, as was common. She also had her grandmother’s and her great-grandmother’s. She kept them in a bag tied to her belt. When her daughter was old enough, she would get the bag along with this goblin’s eyes. It was the tradition.”

Welcome to my blog

I’m glad we’ve found each other. I’m new to this blogging stuff, so please bear with me. But I am not new to writing. I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, and if I wasn’t writing I was conjuring up all sorts of stories in my head. It wasn’t until now, though, that I’ve been able to really hunker down and focus on getting my stories out to share with everyone — especially people like you.

I’ve written more short stories than novellas because, well, they’re quicker to write. In case you’re not sure what a novella is, it’s a story that’s not long enough to be called a novel. Think of it like a mini-novel.

In my stories you’ll see some sci-fi, like the one where a pilot finds himself as part of a game traveling back in time; you’ll see myths, like the one about the creation of the world and the young girl who has to save it from falling into darkness; you’ll see fantasy, like the one about the goblin who wants to keep her bag of eyes; and sometimes they’re just stories, like the one about the girl who promises her mother she’ll never wear that dress.

I’ll be giving you peeks into some of these stories as they’re created, and when they’re done I’ll let you know where you can read them. If you subscribe to my blog you’ll be among the first to know anything that’s going on.

At the top of my blog I said that the characters in my stories are my friends. I really do think of them that way. Even the villains because, doesn’t everyone have their side of the story? I hope you come to think of them as your friends, too.

ps: I’d like to hear from you. I know people say that all the time, but I really do. Whether it’s a question about a story or a character, or even something about my website, your feedback is greatly valued. So, with that said, I hope to hear from you.
